Stay fresh and fabulous all day with our guide to help make your makeup last longer!

Maybe you have an important event coming up that requires you to stay looking fresh all day long, or maybe your makeup tends to wear off in certain areas making you look like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

There are many possible reasons why your makeup just can’t seem to last, so we’ve put together this guide to give you some handy tips and possibly help you put your finger on what may be causing your makeup from fading and separating throughout the day.

#1 Get your skin in order

Some of us are more prone to oily skin while others are doomed with dry skin.

Whatever skin-type category you fall under, balancing out your skin as best as you can will improve the application, finish and longevity of your makeup as it will have a smooth, even texture to work with.

Moisturisers and toners help to soothe dryness and regulate oil production for happy and healthily hydrated skin.

And oily skin types, you need moisturisers too!

Chances are you’re using an oil-regulating face wash with drying agents such as salicylic acid. If you don’t follow up your face wash with a moisturising product, your skin will create more oil to compensate. Not fun!

#2 An even coating of primer

Primer is specifically designed to smooth your complexion for the best-looking makeup application and form a tacky base for your makeup to latch onto.

Without primer, your makeup can appear patchy, your pores tend to stand out more and most importantly, there’ll be no grip for your makeup, leaving it to slip, slide and eventually wear off.

With clean fingers or a flat foundation brush, apply primer all over the face, paying close attention to your areas of struggle. For oily skin types, this would be the T-zone area.

#3 Setting spray all the way

Just as you would spritz your hairdo with a heavy-duty hairspray, it’s good to seal down your makeup with a generous coating of setting spray once you’ve completed your glam look.

If you’re doing a full-face with heavily applied products or you’re usually quite unlucky when it comes to maintaining your makeup, it’s good to apply setting spray throughout your application as well as at the end to really lock in each layer. First, spray down your face products. Then, your eye makeup. And finally, the completed look.

#4 Wear waterproof

Waterproof formulas are specially designed to withstand all of life’s natural nuisances from tears and rain to sweat and humidity. These powerful formulas are the best for a long-lasting makeup look.
