Tutorial of the month: Spotlight / Halo Eyes

Spotlight / Halo eyes have always been a thing. But it wasn’t until recent months that they started to gain some online media attention from Insta-famous makeup artists and popular YouTube beauty gurus.

Today, we’re going to be walking you through this stunning eye makeup technique by recreating this Spotlight Smokey Eye tutorial from beauty-tuber, Desi Perkins.

We will be referring to the Need It Nude Eyeshadow Palette by e.l.f cosmetics. This palette comes with 10 shimmers and matte shades for neutral natural looks and glamorous smokey eyes.

1. With a fluffy blending brush, take shade (1) and apply that along the crease with windshield wiper motions.

2. Take shade (2) on a smaller blending brush and blend this colour onto the outer third and inner third of the lid to start forming the spotlight / halo effect.

3. Pack shade (3) onto the centre of the lid with a flat eyeshadow brush until you reach the desired effect.

4. Going back in with that fluffy blending brush, take shade (4) and apply that colour to the outer third and inner third, just like you did with shade (2). Use a light hand and gradually darken the look, making sure to slightly blend this shade with shade (3) to slightly blur any harsh lines and soften the transition between colours.

5. Using a brown eyeliner pencil similar to the LA Girl Ultimate Auto Eyeliner in 327 Lasting Brown, line the outer third and inner third of your lower lash line.

6. Then, fill in the centre gap with a shimmery silver eyeliner pencil like the BYS Shadow Liner Pencil in 02 Silver. Apply a small amount of that pencil to the inner corner and along the brow bone and blend with your ring finger for a slight highlight effect.

7. Use the remaining shadow residue from the fluffy blending brush to blend the two liners and add some brown smokiness to tie the halo look together.

8. Finish the eyes by curling your lashes and applying a double-coat of volumising mascara or, just add some feathery false lashes.
