How to perfect the pastel look

As much as you may try to bypass them, pastels are a makeup must in 2018.

With the unicorn and mermaid trends that the beauty world has yet to move on from, and a general adoration for highlight (all hail the almighty glow!), we think pastels will be sticking around for quite some time.

As pretty as they are, we’ll be the first to admit that pastels aren’t the easiest thing to rock. Since we’re so accustomed to neutral shades, finding combinations that work with pastels takes a little bit of experimentation.

Luckily, we’ve done the hard work for you and have come up with a few tips and tricks for perfecting the pastel look right in the heart of spring and just in time for summer!

Keep it simple

There’s no need to go all out if you’re new to pastels. Individual pastel shades make excellent colour washes for a pop of vibrancy and a refreshing burst of brightness.

It might be a bit of a 90s throwback, but a single pastel eyeshadow and a coating of mascara can really open the eyes and make them sparkle.

The colour blocking technique

Colour blocking is a funky way to make your eyes pop.

It basically works by using two contrasting shades to give your look a burst of colour and an edgy twist. For instance, a bright aqua blue all over the lid and a warm fuchsia along the lower lash line.

It may sound crazy but just give it a try. You may be pleasantly surprised!

Give pastel liner a go

If you don’t want to brave an all-out pastel look, try swapping out your classic black liquid liner for a pastel liner.

Just spritz a small flat angled brush with some setting spray, dip it into your pastel eyeshadow of choice and apply it to the lids as you would typically apply a gel liner.

It’s a quick, simple look to pull off, but just inventive enough to make it look like you really tried!
