Pencil, gel or liquid?
Pencil is the most forgiving and easiest to smudge for a soft line, making it the best starting point. Gel gives the most control and a rich matte finish but needs a brush. Liquid produces the sharpest, most defined line and the most precise wing, with the least room for error.
How do I get an even line?
Rest your elbow on a surface to steady your hand, and work in short strokes from the centre of the lash line outward rather than attempting one continuous sweep. Looking down into a mirror rather than straight ahead gives a clearer view of the lash line.
Why does my eyeliner smudge or transfer?
Oil, usually. Eyelids produce sebum, and a pencil liner over an unprepared lid will move within hours. Setting the line with a matching powder shadow pressed over the top helps considerably, as does using a waterproof or gel formula on the lower lash line.
How do I fix an uneven wing?
Do not redraw over it. Take a cotton bud with a small amount of micellar water and clean the edge back to a straight line, then rebuild. Correcting the shape is far easier than adding more product to balance it.
