What should I look for in makeup for children?

Formulas made specifically for children, clearly labelled as such, with short ingredient lists and no fragrance where possible. Washable and easy to remove matters practically. Always check the age guidance on the pack and follow it — products intended for adults are not simply a scaled-down version of the same thing.

Should I patch test first?

Yes. Children's skin is thinner and more reactive than adult skin. Apply a small amount to the inner forearm and leave it 24 hours before using anything on the face, particularly around the eyes or mouth. Stop use if any redness or irritation appears.

How do I remove it properly?

Gently and completely. A mild cleanser or micellar water on a soft cloth is enough — avoid scrubbing, and avoid adult makeup removers with strong solvents. Leaving product on overnight is the most common cause of irritation.

What about face paint for parties?

Choose products specifically sold as cosmetic face paint that meet safety requirements, rather than craft paints, which are not formulated for skin. Avoid application near the eyes and lips with any product not explicitly cleared for those areas.
