What is the difference between gel and regular polish?

Traditional gel polish cures under a UV or LED lamp, forming a hard layer that resists chipping for two to three weeks. Regular polish air-dries and typically lasts under a week. Gel-effect and gel-look polishes are a third category — they air-dry like normal polish and mimic the shine without the durability.

Do I need a lamp?

For true gel polish, yes. It will not set properly without curing, and uncured product stays tacky and lifts within hours. If you do not want a lamp, gel-effect polishes give the appearance without the equipment, at normal polish wear time.

How do I remove gel without damaging my nails?

Never peel it. Peeling takes layers of the nail plate with it, which is the main cause of thin, weak nails after gel. Buff the top coat lightly, soak cotton in acetone, wrap each nail in foil for ten to fifteen minutes, then gently push the softened product off.

Why does it lift at the edges?

Usually preparation. Any oil or moisture on the nail plate prevents adhesion, so clean thoroughly and avoid touching the nail before applying. Capping the free edge with each layer also helps seal it.
