What does setting powder do?

It absorbs surface oil and stops liquid or cream products moving, which extends how long your base lasts and reduces shine. It does not add coverage in any meaningful way — that is the foundation's job. Powder is a finishing step, not a coverage step.

Loose or pressed?

Loose powder is finer and better for setting a full base, particularly under the eyes where a fine texture matters. Pressed powder is more portable and better suited to touch-ups through the day. Many people keep loose at home and pressed in a bag.

How much should I use?

Less than feels natural, and only where you need it. Powder across the whole face flattens the skin and can settle into texture. Press it into the areas that move or shine — around the nose, centre of the forehead, under the eyes — and leave the rest.

What is baking, and should I do it?

Applying a thick layer of loose powder, leaving it several minutes, then dusting it away. It gives a very matte, long-lasting finish but is unforgiving on dry or textured skin and looks heavy in daylight. It suits photography and events more than everyday wear.
