How to hydrate your winter skin

How to hydrate your winter skin

Brace yourself, winter is well and truly upon us. And it’s only a matter of time before our lips will be riddled with windburn and we’ll start to fear our reptilian transition as we gaze upon our scaly lizard-like hands.

Keeping on top of our skin in winter is a tedious task but it can be done!

Here are six simple ways to beat the tight, dry, flaky skin that winter loves to bless us with each year!

#1 Switch up your cleanser

Whilst glycolic and salicylic acid are excellent ingredients for obliterating excess oil in the hot Australian summer, they’re only going to encourage your skin to dry out faster in the chilly season.

Choose a cleanser that contains moisturising ingredients such as natural oils and Vitamin E.

If your skin is really unsettled, ingredients like lavender, chamomile and jojoba will help to sooth any itchiness and irritation caused by dryness.

#2 Keep things natural

Our skin is much more sensitive in winter, so avoiding irritants and allergens is crucial this time of year.

Try using natural skincare products in winter. You can check out our selection of natural skincare products here.

#3 Moisturiser is simply a must

The cold weather and low humidity levels create dry air, which snatches away our skin’s moisture. Unfortunately, indoor heating and hot showers make matters worse.

This is why moisturising, particularly after face washes and steamy showers, is extremely important in winter.

If moisturiser alone isn’t cutting it, a moisturising face mask will work wonders for you.

#4 Body oils and body lotions

Keep your skin hydrated and happy with a good body oil or lotion.

Be sure to apply a generous amount of product after hot showers and concentrate on areas where the skin is thinner and noticeably dryer like your elbows, knees, feet and hands.

#5 Don’t neglect your hands

Our hands tend to need a little extra care this time of year.

If you’re not someone who wears gloves regularly (Sorry MJ), try a nourishing hand cream.

#6 Lap up the lip balm

We know how much fun a deep auburn lip can be in winter, but windburn? Not a good look.

Even if it goes against your #aesthetic, try and incorporate more lip balm into your winter beauty get-ups. Your bold lip looks will end up looking so much better – believe me!

With these six simple steps, you’ll be sure to win the glam game this winter!
