What should I look for in a lip gloss set?

A range of opacity rather than a range of colours. A good set includes at least one clear or sheer gloss for layering, one tinted everyday shade, and one with more pigment. Sets built entirely around similar pink shades give less use than the same number of bottles across different finishes.

Sticky or non-sticky?

Tackiness is what makes gloss cling and last, so the two trade off. Higher-shine, longer-wearing glosses tend to feel stickier. Oil-based and balm-textured glosses feel more comfortable but need reapplying more often. If stickiness bothers you, look for lip oils rather than traditional gloss.

Can I wear gloss over lipstick?

Yes, and it is the easiest way to extend a small collection. A clear gloss over a matte lipstick softens it into a satin finish. A tinted gloss over a neutral lipstick shifts the colour entirely. Apply gloss only to the centre of the lip for a fuller look.

How long does lip gloss keep?

Around twelve to eighteen months once opened. Discard if the texture separates, thickens noticeably or the scent changes. Doe-foot applicators returned to the tube repeatedly do introduce bacteria, so glosses are worth replacing more often than lipstick.
