How to apply false nails properly

To apply false nails, just follow these easy steps and your nails will be the talk of the town in no time!

#1 Prepare your hands and nails

Start by washing your hands and then drying your nails and cuticles. Make sure that everything around the nail bed is completely dry.

Clean off any nail polish and give your nails an extra wipe with nail polish remover. This will ensure your nails are completely clean and there are no oils leftover. Your false nails will stick better if they are placed on a completely clean and dry nail.

#2 Get your false nails and cuticles ready

Open your false nails package and test them over your nails. Be sure to not to glue them! This is just to test the size and make sure you are happy with how they will fit.

Then, very gently push your cuticle back using an orange stick. Go slow to not cut your cuticle.

#3 Clip and prime

Clip your natural nail down close to the fingertip. Buff the surface of the nail to roughen it so the false nails can stick better.

Then, apply a nail primer to prep your natural nails.

You can also apply a Nail Guard at this time, which will make removal far easier.

#4 Apply time

Now it’s time to apply your false nails. Apply your nails to your strong hand first, as it will be easier to apply the second hand when using your dominant hand.

Put a small dot of glue on both the false nail and your natural nail.

Place the false nail just above the cuticle and then press down on the nail bed. Make sure the false nail is straight. Press together using an orange stick instead of your finger or nails and apply pressure for 10 seconds. This will avoid any air bubbles appearing.

#5 Cleaning

Clean up the excess glue using a cotton bud around the cuticle.

How to remove false nails

If you are removing false nails at home, you will need some supplies before starting to ensure you don’t damage your natural nails. When you have everything, follow these steps.

#1 File away

Start removing your false nails by filing off as much of the false nail as possible. You’ll need to file off as much of the nail as possible. You will need a stronger nail file than a simple emery board. A 100 Grit Nail File is your best friend for this task.

#2 Acetone the rest

Soak your nails in acetone nail polish remover until the rest of the product dissolves. Make sure your nail polish remover is 100% acetone.

You can do this by wrapping each nail in an acetone-soaked cotton piece, or alternatively, in a bowl with acetone. The cotton method is the superior method though.

#3 Check and scrape

Every 20 minutes, check your nails and gently scrape away the remaining product using an orange stick. Keep repeating this process until the false nails are completely removed.

If there are stubborn bits that won’t budge, use a soft foam buffer to buff them smooth.

#4 Strengthen the nails

Add a base coat to your nails to strengthen them after the false nails are completely removed.
