How to apply false lashes

When it comes to makeup, false lashes have got to be the hardest element to master. After spending ages on the perfect look, that last finishing touch can truly make or break you.
If there’s one thing we can say that will make you feel better, it’s that everybody has struggled with false lashes at some stage. Although it may seem overwhelming at first, it’s only a matter of time before it becomes second nature. Practice really does make perfect.
When applying false lashes, it’s less about steps to follow and more about things to remember. Using the number one lash brand in the world, Ardell, as our example, here are the key things to keep in mind.
Prepping your natural lashes
Before applying false lashes, you should curl your lashes with an eyelash curler. This is particularly important if your lashes are straight and flat. Curling your lashes will make them camouflage better with your fake lashes.
Apply a quick coat of mascara so that you can easily press your lashes into the fake lashes for a seamless look.
Removing your lashes from the box
Use a pair of tweezers to gently pull your lashes out of the box from the outer corner. It’s better to pull your lashes out from the outer corner in case you break or damage the hairs or band. You’re more than likely going to have to trim the outer lashes anyway! If you damage the inner corner, your lashes won’t sit properly and might look a little strange.
Once you have removed your lashes from the box, carefully bend and roll your lashes to promote flexibility and curvature. This will make application a lot easier since our eyes are naturally curved.
Measuring your lashes
All eye shapes are different, and one size does not fit all, so be sure to measure and trim your lashes before applying them.
Rest your false lash on top of your natural lashes to see how much excess needs to be trimmed.
Trim carefully at the vein of the fake lash to avoid accidentally cutting any hairs.
Applying your lashes
You can either use tweezers or a lash applicator to apply false lashes. Lash applicators may be a better option for beginners as they are specifically shaped for a better grip when applying falsies.
Pick up your lashes with your tweezers or lash applicator and apply a thin layer of lash adhesive along the vein of the lashes, ensuring that the corners are well covered.
Let the lash adhesive dry for 5-10 seconds until it becomes tacky so that your lashes can stick down rather than slip and slide.
Apply your lashes by looking down into a mirror and placing them at the centre of the lash line, then carefully pull them into place at the inner and outer corner. Avoid gluing your fake lashes directly onto your natural lashes.
Pinch your natural lashes and your fake lashes together to help blend them better. If needed, you can apply some more mascara to help connect the lashes.
