Brows

You should never underestimate the power of a good brow. Our eyebrows have the ability to completely change our look and face shape.

There have been countless eyebrow trends and styles over the years from the skinny, over-plucked brows of the late 90s and early 2000s to the full, luscious brows we desire today as modelled by celebrities such as Cara Delevingne and Lily Collins.

A plethora of brow products exist in the market today to help us achieve the brow looks we desire including brow gels, brow powders, brow pencils and brow pomades upon others. Several paid services exist also such as micro-blading and the increasingly popular brow lamination.

You can achieve anything from a subtle and natural brow look to a highly defined, bold brow with an iconic arch with the help of the many brow services and products that exist today.

You can shop brow pencils, gels, powders and more when you shop online at Cosmetic Capital.

What is brow lamination?

Brow lamination “perms” the eyebrow hairs to make them appear fuller and more uniform. This is a great option for those with sparse or unruly brows that are lacking a defined shape. First, a cream is applied to help lift the hair. Then the brows are brushed upwards for a shapely appearance. The brow hairs are then set in place with a neutraliser. After that, your technician should apply a moisturising oil to the area to prevent any dryness or irritation that may have been caused by the chemicals.

If you want to achieve similar results to brow lamination without the long-term commitment, chemicals or expense, you can brush your brows upwards and out and set them in place with a brow soap or brow gel for a temporary but similar result.

How long does brow tint last?

Generally speaking, you will likely need to touch up a brow tint at least once a month. Brow tints can last anywhere between three to eight weeks but this depends on a variety of other factors including the type of dye used, the cleansers, makeup removers and other skincare products you use, your hair’s natural growth and shed cycle, sun exposure and how gentle you are when washing your face.

What kind of eyebrows look best?

The best way of knowing which style of eyebrows suit you is to play around with different brow shapes and brow products until you find one that you like.

A lifted, angled brow with a defined arch will typically help lengthen the face whereas a flat, straight brow with a low arch usually create the appearance of a shorter face.

As for brow products, a pencil or powder will give you a softer, more natural-looking brow whereas a pomade will give you bolder and more defined brows.

How do you use brow pencils?

The key to mastering the use of brow pencils is to use a light hand.

Begin filling in your brows by creating light, feathery, hair-like stroke at the front of the brow and taper outwards. Typically, your brows should start at the edge of the nose and end slightly beyond the outer corner of the eye.

You can then go in with a spoolie to soften the brush strokes for a natural-looking result.
