How to warm up your winter skin

Winter is almost over. The days are getting longer, the sun is shining brighter and we’re getting more opportunities to step outside and enjoy the daylight.

The only problem here is that we have adjusted to indoor life and so has our skin.

There are still a few weeks to go before we can officially say spring is upon us, so we do have some time to breathe life back into our complexions.

From skincare to makeup, here are some of our top suggestions for re-inviting warmth back into your winter skin.

Getting your skin winter ready

Moisturise and re-hydrate

Since the cooler weather can dry out our skin, it’s important to keep our skin moisturised and hydrated.

If you don’t already have a regular skin regime that includes moisturising, now is the best time to make moisturising an integral part of your daily routine.

If your skin needs some deep nourishment, try a hydrating face mask or a rich serum. Face masks are a great way to give the skin some instant hydration and serums work over-time by deeply penetrating the skin to give it exactly what it needs.

When giving your skin some TLC, don’t neglect your lips. Keep chapped lips at bay by treating your lips to an exfoliating scrub and reinviting moisture with a lip balm or lip oil.

Treat dark circles

The cool weather, dry winds and lack of sunlight we experience in winter can contribute to the development of dark circles.

If you are dealing with under-eye darkness, try an eye cream or eye mask. Using these in conjunction with an eye or skin roller will help the products sink in and also improve puffiness.

For additional coverage, add a touch of brightening concealer on top of a pink, peach or red colour corrector. Light peach and pink work best on light skin tones and those with darker skin tones will see better results from orange/red hues.

Consider self-tanning

If you dislike how pale your skin has become and would like to give yourself a bit of a sun-kissed glow before stepping out, you can always turn to self-tanner.

Not only does self-tanner add a golden glow to the skin in the matter of minutes, but a lot of self-tanning products contain moisturising ingredients which will further help remedy dry winter skin.

Add a wash colour with bronzer and blush

A dusting of bronzer and a pop of blush adds some life and colour to the complexion.

Follow the natural contours of your face with your bronzer of choice and blend a touch of blush to the apples of the cheek. You can also dust some blush across the bridge of the nose for a natural flushed look.

For extra dewiness, try a cheek tint or cream blush rather than a powder blush.

Rock a bright lip colour

Nothing brightens up the face like a strikingly bold lip colour.

Whip out a fun and exciting lip colour like a radiant red or a piping hot pink to immediately illuminate your complexion.

To take your look to the next level, add some lip gloss to make your lips appear plump and juicy. Chapped lips? Never heard of them.

Turn up the glow with some highlighter

Highlighter is your absolute go-to for making the skin appear as if it is radiating from within.

Apply your highlighter of choice along the high points of the face and, depending on what you’re wearing, add some to your collarbones and shoulders to make your skin pop.

One of our favourite highlighters right now is KimChi Chic Beauty Pearl Gone Wild Highlighter. This glittery highlighter is absolutely gorgeous. It imparts a stunning iridescent sparkle that is almost magical.

Beyond that, it is also Sulfate free, Paraben free, Phthalates free, Cruelty Free and 100% Vegan. We’re obsessed.
